The production team behind the television adaptation of Nyan Nyan Factory’s Chainsmoker Cat (Yanineko) manga announced that voice actress Yū Kobayashi is joining the cast as Penpen Neko. The character is slated to debut in the sixth episode, airing on Thursday.

Seven Seas is publishing the manga in English, following a comedy premise set in a world shared by humans and catgirls:
Yani is a heavy-smoking catgirl whose living space is perpetually cluttered with trash and reeking of ash. Every attempt to break the habit collapses instantly under the weight of her cravings. Will she ever clean up her act, or is she destined to remain a chaotic, nicotine-dependent slob?
True to the source material, the franchise features plenty of crude humor, toilet gags, and regular depictions of substance use, including alcohol and tobacco.
The anime’s creative team includes Taku Kimura (of Studio Lemon, known for Kairyū to Yūbinya-san and Star Wars: Visions‘ “Tatooine Rhapsody”) directing at Bibury Animation Studio, with scripts penned by Takashi Aoshima (Himouto! Umaruchan, The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You). Character designs are handled by Riki Matsuura, while Keiichi Suzuki (Saint Young Men, Tokyo Godfathers) composes the score. The opening theme, “Nanmonee,” is performed by the rock band Wasureranneyo, and the ending theme, “Kemuri to Blue” (Smoke and Blue), is delivered by Necry Talkie.
The series premiered on July 2 late at night on Tokyo MX and BS11, before expanding to AT-X later that month. For international audiences, WWWave Corporation’s streaming platform OceanVeil has been simulcasting the episodes as they air.
Viewers can choose between two versions of the broadcast: an “On-Air” edition tailored for standard television, and an “Evil Dragon Unleashed” cut that preserves the uncompromised directorial vision for select episodes. While the uncensored version streams via AT-X and platforms like AnimeFesta, DMM TV, Hulu, Netflix, and OceanVeil, many other Japanese streaming services carry exclusively the television broadcast version.
Nyan Nyan Factory serializes the original manga in Kodansha’s Young Magazine, with Kodansha releasing the 13th compiled volume in August, while Seven Seas released the third English volume earlier in the summer.
