The movie is scheduled to hit theaters in Japan on February 11, 2027.
Bandai Namco Filmworks outlines the premise of the film:
I want to know what is <real>.
Set in a near-future world where human labor is no longer required, the story follows Neekei, a young girl on a quest to discover what is truly “real” while pushing back against the rigid structure of a thoroughly satisfied society.
Shingo Natsume (known for his work on ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept., One-Punch Man, Sonny Boy, and Space Dandy) is helming the project at Madhouse, directing the film and writing the screenplay. Noted manga author Natsume Ono (ACCA 13, Ristorante Paradiso, House of Five Leaves) drafted the original character designs, which Norifumi Kugai is adapting into animation character designs. Bandai Namco Filmworks is handling distribution.
Additionally, the alternative rock band hitsujibungaku will perform the film’s theme song as well as the insert song “Sugar.”
This project marks Shingo Natsume’s directorial debut for an original theatrical anime film. Speaking about the production, Natsume shared that he aims to create “a work that could be called fictional but is in tune with our current time and seeks realism.”
For fans looking to dive into the story early, a manga adaptation illustrated by himiko began serialization in Kadokawa’s Young Ace magazine on August 4.
