Seiko’s New £311 Anime Collaboration Watch Takes Notes From an Iconic ’90s Mazda Sports Car

When it comes to anime-themed timepieces, few brands match Seiko’s knack for exciting partnerships. The Japanese watchmaker consistently impresses with its franchise choices, and its latest collaboration dives into the world of Initial D, the legendary 1990s street racing anime.

Seiko’s newest chronograph is a direct tribute to Keisuke Takahashi, one of the series’ main characters, and his iconic Mazda RX-7 FD3S. While the overall aesthetic is heavily influenced by the car’s striking exterior, true fans will appreciate the clever automotive details woven into the design.

A vibrant yellow dial mimics the signature paint job of the Mazda RX-7, complemented by a stark black bezel that mirrors the vehicle’s interior. The three chronograph sub-dials feature red indices that evoke the look of a glowing-red dashboard. Subtle Easter eggs include a 12 o’clock marker shaped in honor of the RX-7’s rotary engine, and the emblem of Takahashi’s racing team, the RedSuns, positioned at the 3 o’clock mark. Every element of the watch has been crafted with the dedicated franchise fan in mind.

In a nod to the year the manga originally debuted—1995—production is strictly limited to 1,995 individually numbered pieces, making it a must-have for collectors. The timepiece arrives in a custom collector’s box matching the car’s bright yellow finish, featuring the Initial D and RedSuns logos on the outside, alongside a full-color illustration of Keisuke Takahashi and his RX-7 printed on the interior lid.

Scheduled for release at the end of January, the watch is priced at ¥65,780 (approximately £311), keeping it firmly within Seiko’s accessible price range. While it is expected to launch as a Japan exclusive via PREMICO, international buyers will likely be able to secure one through third-party proxy shipping services.
