IDW Publishing has launched the digital release of Yuki Imada’s manga, Sonic the Hedgehog: The Blade of Courage, available exclusively through its official app. The debut chapter became available for purchase in late July 2026, with new installments scheduled to drop every three weeks. Following the launch, the second chapter is slated to arrive on August 19, 2026.
According to the official synopsis on the IDW Publishing app:
The beloved manga Sonic the Hedgehog: The Blade of Courage has officially made its debut in English! Join the Blue Blur—the fastest living thing on earth—as he teams up with an unlikely, much slower companion named Yuta. Together, they will journey across wild jungles, face off against dangerous adversaries, and work to save the world.
In the opening chapter, Sonic and Yuta cross paths for the very first time, quickly getting pulled into a high-stakes adventure after a criminal threatens the lives of innocent train passengers.
Yuki Imada originally began serializing Sonic the Hedgehog: The Blade of Courage within the pages of Shogakukan’s Monthly CoroCoro Comic in June 2025, followed by a physical tankobon volume release in Japan in December 2025.
Before this project, Imada illustrated the Shadow the Hedgehog manga series from September 2024 to February 2025, which is also scheduled to receive an English release at a later date.
IDW Publishing has a rich history with SEGA’s iconic franchise, having produced numerous English-language Sonic comic books, most notably their flagship ongoing monthly series that kicked off in April 2018.
